for the very first time in my entire life, i went to the movies alone today. i know... i'm pathetically old for this to have been the first time, but i'm weird like that. i'll probably never get to the point where i'll eat dinner in a fancy restaurant alone, but this was a small step for me.
i saw an early evening showing of the savages. it was a delightful experience spent with a theater full of seventy year olds. ahhhhhhhh the joys of living.

Well you ARE almost 30, after all.
I've dined alone before. Not my fave, but if you have a book it's not so bad.
To Do:
1) make to do list
I did that for the first time last year. I ended up in a crowded theater on a Saturday night so I didn't feel too alone. Although there was a crowd of teenage girls who I swear kept looking at me and giggling. Ppppphhhhttthhh to them!
I keep meaning to go to a restaurant and eat alone but I usually just grab food to go and bring it home to eat while I work.
Missed ya!
I'm impressed it has taken you this long to go to a movie by yourself, seriously impressed. Still, the Savages could be a tad awkward to see with the wrong friends so you were probably better off.
I used to be scared of both dining alone and seeing a movie alone. Once I did it once I realized that I actually really, really enjoyed it! There is almost nothing better than going to the movies for a mid-week viewing.
I've never gone to the movies alone either. before I had a kid I would never have done it. now it would be the most wonderful thing ever...imagine watching a movie without interruption.
Good girl. I enjoy doing that sometimes... I saw Once and Broken English by myself last year. Both fanshmastic movies.
Last summer, I DID eat lunch by myself at Broadway Grill with a book --- that was pretty fun, too, albeit slightly self-conscious.
i love going to the movies alone. i actually prefer it to going to the movies with other people.
and i probably won't ever eat in a fancy restaurant by myself (too expensive not to share the experience with someone) but when i lived/worked in nyc, i would often eat lunch alone - sushi roll, seaweed salad, glass of white wine (on a friday), and my book. heaven!
movies or dinner alone = heaven. Definitely need to pick the right time and place for it... and for the latter, definitely some juicy reading material. I've only done either of these things a few times, but how lovely to take one's time and set one's own pace. Love it.
